Woop woop. A little over a year ago us Brits had no X Games Golds to call our own, and now we have like three, each courtesy of the epic Jenny Jones!
The third came under bluebird skies at the first ever Euro Winter X Games in Tignes and she didn’t ever need her third run to clinch it. We’re fully stoked for her and the super-styley Kjersti Buaas who got second. Check back for highlights laters.

Kaitlyn Farrington took victory today in the women’s superpipe finals of the inaugural Winter X Games Europe in Tignes, France. The girls seemed to cope very well with the 22 foot superpipe, and perform excellent along the lines of what the judges wanted to see: amplitude, combination, difficulty, and use of the pipe. Of the six riders that had qualified for the finals Kaitlyn laid down the best run, including a Back 5, a Frontside Air, a huge Backside 9, a Front 5 and - if we saw it correctly - a Back 7. This performance was awarded with remarkable 97.00 points. Second place went to Olympic gold medallist Torah Bright, who showed a run oozing with amplitude and style. It included a Front 7 to Cab 7 off axis combination, but was not enough to beat Kaityn’s technical repertoire today. Bronze went to French Sophie Rodriguez, who kept impressing the crowd with her smooth Frontside 9s.
“X Games is such a huge event to action sports and to have it in France only enhances the culture of action sports on a whole,” said Torah of Winter Games coming to Europe. “That is why I am here to support the first ever Winter X Games Europe – it is history in the making.”
Ranking Superpipe Finals Women
1. Kaitlyn Farrington (USA) 97.00
2. Torah Bright (AUS) 95.66
3. Sophie Rodriguez (FRA) 87.00
4. Mercedes Nicoll (CAN) 82.33
5. Ellery Hollingsworth (USA) 79.00
6. Kjersti Oestgaard Buaas (NOR) 78.66

We all know that action sports bears a high risk of injury or even death. But to often the thrill is just too good to leave it alone and once every now and then something doesn’t play out so smoothly. But today we’re very happy to announce that B.A.S.E jumper and free skiing legend Karina Hollekim is back on her skis three and a half years after her near death accident! Read her story and see that there is always hope…
In August 2006, during a demonstration skydive in Switzerland, Karina Hollekim’s chute failed to open. She hit the ground at over 100 km/hour. The force of impact broke her right femur in four places and splintered her left leg into 21 open fractures. She lost over three litres of blood in 45 minutes. But, she did not die.
The crash spared her spine and head, and she was told she would never walk again. It was tough to wake up everyday without the body that had let her live her dreams. But those dreams had taught her life is about challenges; that the only limits to what she could achieve were in her own head and mind. Step by step, Karina fought her battles, and slowly she began to walk again.
And now, almost three and a half years after that fateful day and over 15 painful surgeries later, Karina has hit the slopes once again. A simple run, but full of emotion and meaning. “Coming back to the slopes and to the mountains was almost too good to be true!” exclaimed Karina. “I´ve dreamt about this everyday for 3,5 years now, I´ve gone through it in my mind, how it would feel and what it would be like, but this is better than I could ever imagine. It feels unreal! I think I´m the happiest kid on the slope today, I just can´t stop smiling! And the best thing is that this is just the beginning… “
Karina embodies the philosophy behind The North Face - to ‘never stop exploring’. This is how she lives her life. She became renowned worldwide as a courageous and skilful exponent of extreme sport. As an exceptional athlete, she inspired others. Her strength and determination to recover from near-death are perhaps even more inspirational.

‘Ridin’ 9 to 5’ - Dates and location confirmed for unique 2010 enduro mountain bike event
Six hundred acres of the private Pippingford Park estate in East Sussex, will play host to the Muc-Off 8 - an eight hour enduro mountain bike event. Taking place on Sunday the 11th April 2010 the Muc-Off 8 will be an exciting and unique addition to the UK enduro mountain biking race scene for 2010.
Special celebrity guest appearances from the world of motorsport such as Formula 1’s Mark Webber, who is considering an entry to the 8 hour solo category as he continues his fitness comeback from a broken leg at the end of the 2008 season, will bring a slice of glamour to the one day event.
The Muc-Off 8 aims to deliver an unforgettable event experience for the competitors, with top quality live entertainment, first class organisation and free goodies, free bike care courtesy of market leading cleaning brand Muc-Off and the beauty of riding unspoiled, private tracks and trails.
Based on solo riders and teams of two, three or four the eight-hour racing concept will see the competitors negotiating a challenging off-road course including a purpose made and electronically timed downhill section which also forms part of each lap.
The aim is to complete as many laps as possible within the eight-hour period with teams dictating their own strategy, using only one rider at a time on the course.
MD of title sponsor Muc-Off, Alex Trimnell comments:
“When we first came up with the concept for the Muc-Off 8, the rider experience and value for money was the first priority. It was key for us to follow the same principles that we operate within Muc-Off such as the best possible user experience, a strong focus on environmental concerns and to make sure it’s fun, exciting and cutting edge!
We are very excited to be hosting our own event and to meet our customers and fellow mountain bikers on what will definitely be a race day to remember. We are working on lots of new concepts which I think will make this a very unique and exciting event.”
Pippingford Park is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and considers its responsibilities to the environment as highly important. Pippingford Park Estate manager Richard Morris explains:
“Pippingford Park is mostly a Site Of Special Scientific Interest with many rare species making their home here. This makes it difficult to find sympathetic activities which can fit in, we are thrilled with the success of mountain biking events here, no damage and a responsible group of people with a love of wild spaces. It could hardly be a better mix! In particular the whole ethos of Muc-Off fits in seamlessly with how we manage the estate, it will be wonderful to see everyone here enjoying the amazing surroundings and challenging terrain. The only down side is that as estate manager I can’t get my bike out and join in on the day!”
Entries for the race are now open via registration through the website.

With all the brands for women’s clothing, gear and equipment, so far there has been none to specialise in one of the most important parts of the female body - the hands of course!
But the wait is over ladies, let us introduce to you Bliss by Level!
With Level’s twenty-years of experience they have created a glove line entirely dedicated to the women loving snow. Originally created as Level’s female line, today “Bliss by Level” boasts a place entirely of its own in the field of snowboard and freestyle ski as an independent and fashion line.
The line has been designed by two designers coming from North America and Europe giving the product an international relish.
Near the two above designers it was created a team of women of different nationalities called “The Bliss Council” of which riders such as Ane Enderud, Tania Detomas and Sarka Pancochova are part, so to allow this project to grow in the feminine: sport women who succeed in getting aggressive and competitive but womanly at the same time. From the development of the concept to the final product, to the choice of new materials and textures, to the product test both in park and in free: from the beginning to the end “Bliss by Level” is created by women for women.
From the harmony and the exigences of us young women it was born a technical product, always fashionable, warm and extremely perspiring, softly suitable and extraordinary comfortable. In this way a different product was created as well as a new category in the field of ski and snowboard gloves.
“Bliss by Level” is not only synonymous of style but also of technicality: from the request of women to have warmer and warmer hands, the first aim has been that to realize gloves able to satisfy that request. The shape leaving space to the air and the materials used as primaloft, thicker insulation and Gore-Tex® membrane make “Bliss by Level” to be considered the warmest gloves on the market…every day, at any weather conditions, in any mountains.
I GLOVE YOU!!

We’re all incredibly excited for the first Euro X Games and whether they will blow us away as the legendary mother event in the US.
During the women’s Snowboard SuperPipe elimination yesterday it was riders who were almost blown away literally, fortunately the winds slowed down during the day though and Torah Bright proofed she’s worth every ounce of her Olympic gold medal by scoring way above the other contestants without even pulling the bad boys. But also Ellery Hollingsworth impressed with huge back-to-back 7s as well as Sophie Rodriguez, who brought a whole school of kids to support her. Together with Kjersti Oestgaard Buaas, Mercedes Nicoll, and Kaitlyn Farrington they make up the finals on Friday.

Are you the Next Girl DJ?
Next Girl DJ, a new pan-European contest that aims to discover the hottest girl DJ around and propel her into dance music stardom launches today.
Audio giants JBL and leaders in sport and lifestyle, Roxy are two credible brands synonymous with music and female culture, and are the brains behind this aspirational contest.
The contest will be facilitated on the world’s leading mix sharing platform www.letsmix.com
Next Girl DJ will provide one girl DJ with a life-changing opportunity (not to mention heaps of prizes) whilst changing the face of dance music history in the process - in the recent DJ Top 100, only one woman was represented. Thanks to JBL, Roxy and you, all this is about to change.
This contest is not about slinging male talent to one side, but about providing a space for girls to showcase their skills. More females are needed to exhibit their talent in what is, still, a male dominated environment.
So are you passionate, ambitious and know how to throw down some tunes? Then what are you waiting for?
Here’s how it works. The competition opens today and is open to any girl in Europe over the age of 18.
1) Entrants are asked to upload their mix to www.nextgirldj.com, using the mp3 upload function or Letsmix editor, to be voted on by a community of dance music lovers. The length of the mix should be around 30 minutes, but no restriction will be placed on the style of music. The contest will run online for two months and public voting will stop on 16th April.
2) Five girls will then be selected from each location to go through to the semi-finals in the four music capitals of Europe - London, Paris, Brussels and Berlin.
3) The grand final will see the four local country winners go back online to upload a beach-themed mix at www.nextgirldj.com
4) One winning girl will be announced, from public and expert panel voting, as the Next Girl DJ and will go on to play their mix at the Roxy Jam in Biarritz in July, win a year’s contract with Roxy to produce music, and a whole host of other prizes including a special customised Next Girl DJ surfboard, a Pacemaker device and stylish JBL and Roxy products. They will also appear on German DJ Anja Schneider’s radio show in Berlin.
Contestants will get the unique opportunity to learn from the expert judging panel containing some of the industry’s most influential and inspirational females - Anja Schneider, Noura Labbani (Beatport), Caroline Hayes (Spun Out) and Fanny (kill the DJ) are all involved, amongst others.
Next Girl DJ judge, Anja Schneider said: “I was really shocked to see so few female DJs featured in the annual Top 100 DJ chart in DJ Magazine this year. This is crazy because I know that there are so many talented women DJ’s out there. I think some women are holding back too much and perhaps waiting for other people to push them, when really they should support each other and do it themselves. I hope this competition will be a good incentive for girl DJ’s to show the world what they can do!”
Next Girl DJ GERMAN Semi-Final Event
WHERE: HORST, BERLIN
WHEN: 8.00pm till late on 27th May
Watch this space for announcements.
Rules
Inclusion in the Next Girl DJ contest requires you to be European and over 18.
Only one 30 minute mix per Letsmix.com member may enter the contest. All styles of music are welcome! For further information please see the Next Girl DJ Terms & Conditions.
Prizes
Next Girl DJ partners Roxy, JBL and letsmix.com have conjured up some magic prizes for the talented winner:
· A one-off special DJ set at 2010 Longboard World Championship
1 year contract with Roxy to produce clips for European BoardRiders TV and 1 hour “Instore mix”
· Full profile focus on roxy.com
A customized Next Girl DJ surfboard

Congrats to Steph Gilmore! After three world titles already in her bag, she starts off this season with another win at the Roxy Pro this weekend.
In punchy 2-3 foot waves, the reigning three-time ASP World Champion was able to capture an early heat lead and defeat Hawaiian veteran Melanie Bartels in the final, claiming her third title at Snapper Rocks.
“It’s definitely a dream start,” Gilmore said. “I didn’t really expect to win here. The waves weren’t so great. I definitely didn’t put in as incredible performance as I would have wanted to, and I’m sure Mel (Bartels) has the same feeling, but at the end of the day, I’m happy to win, that’s awesome!”
Gilmore first won her hometown event as a 17-year-old wildcard in 2005 and claimed top honors again in 2009.
Next event on the ASP World Tour is the Rip Curl Pro Surf & Music Festival at Bells Beach from March 30 to April 5, so stayed tuned for more info!

Our former Cooler Cover Girl Jenny Jones (the only one with 2 covers so far!!) has scored another big one: a sponsorship deal with Relentless Energy. Congrats Jen!
Although she was quite visible on the scene for a while already, with her great part in the all girl’s movie Stance and her second consecutive X Games title, Jenny is now amongst the Euro shred super stars for sure.
And the Relentless people think so as well of course: Relentless spokesperson Steven Ruhl said ‘We’re really excited to announce that Xavier de la Rue and Jenny Jones have joined the expanding Relentless Athlete team. They’re two people that we’ve been following for a while now and as Relentless is based on the principles of being pioneering, pushing the boundaries and having a No Half Measures approach, both Xavier and Jenny are a perfect fit’’.

One of our favourite Euro shredders and former Cooler Cover Star Lisa Filzmoser has signed a two years contract with Nikita Outerwear! After being on the streetwear team for quite some time already, she has now enlarged her partnership with the brand and will be rocking in Nikita from head to toe. Just as it’s supposed to be for a true Girl Who Rides.
And here’s some more info from the official press release:
Lisa met Runar and Heida at IPP camp in May 2003 at the time when she was filming for snowboard movie Dropstitch. She got onto Nikita’s International Team in 2005 and since then has had a lot of good times in Iceland. The last few years has seen her travel to many different places. “I was with Helly Hansen outerwear since 2005, which was a great experience and I am where I am now because of them. Now its time to move on and I am just super stoked to ride for Nikita Outerwear also!“
It’s no secret Lisa is a top female snowboard talent, with appearances in a lot of movies in the last few years. She has been part of Dropstitch, Transfer, Last Winter, Float, Whiteever, more recently Stance alongside the likes of Jenny Jones, Gretchen Blieler and Hana Beaman and a feature part in La Famiglia movie ’Serious...not’. Most of the movies she has worked on were all girls. She loves to work with both girls and movies involving guys. “I don’t care if it is girls or guys I ride with as long as everyone is motivated and fun to ride with. Sure there is a difference between girls and guys crews; with girls I can just do all the girls talk and have fun with them, with the guys I like their fast approach to get stuff done on the mountain but I honestly love both.“
She’s on the filming and shooting train again working on a new filming project with True Color Films. Alongside Alvaro Vogel, Rene Schnöller, Filippo Kratter, Nicholas Wolken and more friends, they will be headed on a series of four trips to countries like Italy, Japan, Austria and Argentina. “Four short snowboard movies with legit riding and good editing, without forgetting the fun we have on the snow. Each video will have a run-time of around 10 to 15 minutes per movie.”
Check out www.truecolorfilms.com for more info, little videos and photos on the blog. The movies will also be available as free downloads online, so watch out for them! Lisa is currently in Japan after her first trip with them to Italy. Read about it on the Nikita Blog – nikitaclothing.com/blog
She has a great attitude and has an enviable style powering through park or busting out moves in big mountain terrain and powder. Picking her dream day out riding Lisa says “it has to be with powder and friends. If it’s super fun treeruns in snowy weather, a kicker or hiking session in backcountry, its all super fun and satisfying.“
Finally, Lisa had this to say; “I am super stoked to be on the Nikita Outerwear Team now too! The clothes just stand out, by design and comfort and all the passionate people that are behind it! I just love Nikita!“
The feeling is mutual and Geiri, Nikita’s International Marketing Man is super happy to welcome her...“We love Lisa and we love the fact that she is now also part of our Outerwear team. She is an awesome, talented, beautiful human being and it is our great privilege to welcome her to our outerwear family.”

For the 7th time already, Oakley is summoning all the shred girls out there to Ruka, Finland on April 8-11th to compete in ultimate girls showdown that is the TTR 3star Girlsessions.
The Ruka BatteryPark is shaped to offer the perfect set up for the slope style, team contest, individual slope style and pipe competition for both snowboard and skis.
To say that last year’s winner, Enni Rukajärvi, has used this stepping stone well would be absolute understatement - she hasn’t only won the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam at the beginning of this season but also some of the most prestigious contests on the TTR, so to say the Roxy Chicken Jam, the Burton European Open and the Burton Canadian Open. If this success story doesn’t sound tempting we don’t know what will.
Well, maybe 2500 $ prize money or the goodies of a value of about 10.000$? Or side events like bowling, theme parties and the possibility to see the mystic forests of Northern Finland, where the reindeer roam freely?
Whatever floats your boot, as an aspiring pro shred we can only advise you to check it out!

In the true tradition of the Nikita Chickita, that is combing girls, shredding and fun in the best possible way, the US leg of the event went down in Brighton, Utah last weekend.
Slightly different from the European events, this one held two contests divided into the categories Amateurs and Pros, to give all Chickitas a chance to show what they got and compete against equals. In the end it turned out a bit different than expected with one girl winning both categories - being an amateur! Make sure you stay on the watch for Miss Jessica Jensen and her super clean back 5s. With only 17 years at the moment she is very sure to impress us even further in the future…

The penultimate event of the Freeride World Tour went down on the famous Tram Face in Squaw Valley in the USA last weekend.
The Women scored big time at this event, impressing the spectators with creative lines and jumping the same cliffs as the male competitors. Especially local skier Jaclyn Paaso, who entered the contest with a wild card, showing her skills with a massive cliff jump at the bottom of the face, faster and higher than most of the men, challenging them for the second heat. Even world class Skier
The Snowboard Division was dominated by Shannan Yates (USA) in front of Aline Bock (GER, who will be featured in our upcoming issue - watch out!!) and Susan Mol (USA).

As you might already know, howies does not only make beautiful, eco friendly clothes, they also support young, talented artists in their Staircase Gallery in their shop on Carnaby Street in London.
In March, it’s going to filled with an exhibition of illustrator Jessie Ford from Brighton.
If you want to know more, read her bio below and check her pieces out in the howies store during March 2010.
Brighton based illustrator Jessie Ford has been busily producing her colourful compositions for a wide range of clients since graduating from Bath in 2002.
Jessie first learnt the ropes whilst working as an agent for Central the Illustration Agency, scooting round London’s top firms by day and drawing into the night. However her illustrations soon became very much in demand and she upped roots to breezy Brighton to pursue the life of a full time illustrator, where she can still be found today, collecting beautiful scraps of paper that catch her eye and shooing off pesky seagulls.
Jessie’s artwork combines graphic shapes and textured layers, often using silhouetted figures and typographic elements in her work to produce a finished result that has a silk-screened look to it.

howies isn’t only one of our favourite brands because they make beautiful clothes in an eco friendly way, we have to admit we also just love flicking through their picturesque catalogues…
This also applies for the new spring range that’s under the theme ‘Twin Towns’. This is howies the story to it:
Our home town of Cardigan is twinned with another little town in Patagonia called Trevelin, it’s based at the foothills of the Andes mountains and we have a great story to tell you. It all starts here in Wales where back in the 1800s a small group of people travelled over 8,000 miles by sea in a boat called the “Mimosa” to settle in Patagonia and begin a new life with their families. The more we looked into this incredible story, the more we got hooked.
So last November we sent four people from howies to Patagonia to follow in the footsteps of the settlers to find out more about our twin town. Meanwhile a group of us stayed here on Welsh soil and learned more about our lovely home town of Cardigan. Then we wove the two stories together with the thread of dragons breath which we’ve now documented for you in this catalogue.
So after all the hard work with editing down of over 4000 photographs and the listing of over 70 great new products, as well as all the different colours and sizes we’ve finally finished the Spring catalogue and we knew you couldn’t wait another minute to take a peek.
For those of you who are waiting for your catalogue to arrive it will be sent direct to your doormats in around a weeks time.

Instead of buying some expensive ridiculous flowers for the Valentines’ Day, 18 girls were rocking the snowpark of the Pyrenean ski resort of Saint-Lary last weekend! Saint-Lary, the fresstyle ski resort par excellence!
The 3rd edition of the Betty Jam took place under an unexpected sunny weather and good conditions of snow.
The Betty Jam, what’s that? Take a bunch of motivated and passionate girls aged from 8 to 25 from all around France and Spain, mix them up, tell them to do what they do best (ski and snowboard) and you get a beautiful Snow Session performed with passion, love, and fun.
On the snow park? Two stands. The Mountain Riders who focus on protecting the mountain environment, offering mobile ashtrays to riders, and Keep a Breast, a foundation to increase breast cancer awareness among women.
On Saturday night, the fever of crazy winter parties spread among competitors and organisers who met in the craziest bar of the town, the Izard Café Central for the Prize Award Ceremony.
On the Agenda of that night? Punch, presents to winners (sponsored by Nikita), and a long night out before a Sunday of free session.
A perfect weekend for everyone, “I really don’t want go back home tonight.” says one of the girls at the end of those two days. “We’ve found friends here even if nobody knew each other yesterday!” claims Idoia, a snowboarder from the Basque Country.
The Saint-Lary ski resort and the I’m a Girl Association, the event founders, are looking forward for the girls to come back next year to hold an even bigger contest!

Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright gives us some tips on shredding the white stuff. There are some easy to follow rules that will have you looking like a pro.
February 19, 2010 @ 12:41 PM - News: World
Torah Bright
It’s a funny thing the Olympics. It kinda goes against what most of us feel is the true essence of snowboarding, which the TTR represents way better, but then because it only comes around once every four years, it’s hard not to get insanely excited about it. It’s also nice to know the whole world is watching the sport you love with all your might, which in turn impacts on the riders and makes them push way harder than they would normally, as shown by the amount of guys learning double corks in the last two months and in particular with Shaun White’s unveiling of the Tomahawk in the men’s final on Wednesday night.
Now we knew Roxy rider Torah Bright had been practicing double corks, see for yourself here, we knew no girl had ever landed one and we knew from Stine Brun Kjeldaas, the Roxy Creative Director, who was also commentating on the women’s half pipe for the BBC, that Torah was planning to lay one down if she got a solid score in her first run in the final. That sadly wasn’t to be as she sat down on the first run doing a highly technical Switch Backside 720 where you land blind, but it didn’t take anything away from the greatness of what happened next. She had the highest score in the qualifying round, which meant she went last in the first round of the final. But when she sketched out she got the lowest score so had to go first for her second and final run. This meant she had to dust herself down, pick herself up mentally and go out there right away and put in a Gold medal winning run, which she did. Boo yeah!
So it didn’t have the double cork we were hoping for, maybe we’ll see that at the first ever Euro X Games next month, but technically it was so far above anything any other woman on the planet is doing right now, especially as she nailed the Switch Backside 720, that it deserves massive respect. More so than ever when you consider the mental pressure she was under, the girl is nails. She scored a whopping 45 out of 50 points and was visibly stoked, especially when she noticed her parents in the crowd, who’d secretly flown over from Oz, against her instructions (!). Although she was also as humble as ever while she waited to see if the other girls could better her score.
Hannah Teter
The Gold medallist from the last Olympics Hannah Teter got closest taking silver with a clean enough run, but it lacked the spark, amplitude and technical level of Bright’s. Kelly Clark also got near and certainly had the amplitude that the judges had been rewarding all night, but her run wasn’t as clean and solid as usual, so she had to settle for bronze.
There were a few other surprises along the way, with recent X Games winner Gretchen Bleiler falling, having nailed her signature Crippler 720 earlier in the run, and placing 11th. The pressure of bring home a medal also proved too much for the Chinese riders Jiayu Liu and Zhifeng Sun, who looked really nervous throughout, though Jiayu Liu had a strong last run to place 4th.
Sophie Rodriguez from France, who finished 5th, impressed us a lot, especially as she was the only rider to attempt a 1080, even though she didn’t quite stick the landing. Queralt Castellet from Spain also went massiiiiiive in qualification but then crashed in practice and had to miss the final unfortunately. Get well soon Queralt. She’s definitely one to watch for the future though, as is Sarka Pancochova whose smooth, composed style and fun-loving vibe make her a total pleasure to watch. We also love how she goes for hard moves, even though she’s more of a slopestyle rider, and refuses to compromise and play it safe. As does Kjersti Buaas who is so stylish and creative, she so deserved a place in the semi even though she sketched out some landings, but instead it went to a more boring run consisting of straight airs but height, which the judges were favouring heavily last night.
So massive congrats to Torah, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer or more talented girl and we’re fully stoked for our former cover star.
A big shout out must also go Lesley McKenna, Cooler contributor, three times Olympian and UK snowboard star, who in spite of having a great season, especially at the BEO, and riding well in training, just couldn’t stick her landings in the contest. She wasn’t even going to do the Olympics as she spends all her time coaching young Roxy groms but having performed way below her abilities at the last games in Turin, she wanted to exorcise her past Olympics demons, especially as she got such a hard time in the UK press. It wasn’t to be but she’ll always be a legend in our eyes.

Australia’s shred goddess Torah Bright, who is without doubt the most technical rider in the women’s field right now, is following the hype and is working to get a double cork on lock too.
As you can see from this first video evidence shot back last year, she doesn’t appear to be too far off from this double Crippler and if she can mix this into one of her ever-stylish runs then she’s gotta be a serious contender for gold. The only consideration will then be if she has the amplitude to compete with Kelly Clark and Gretchen Bleiler, both who’ve been going huge with front 9s and inverted 7s.

Last weekend, the second stop of the Women’s Freeride World Tour went down in Fieberbrunn.
In the snowboard category, it was German rider Aline Bock who convinced head judge Cyril Neri with a “simple but very fast and solid line including two jumps”, in front of Austrian Liz Kristoferitsch, who got second and Vivian Aase from Norway.
The skier’s category was once again dominated by Ane Enderud (NOR), who just got back on skis after a back injury that made her miss out on the first stop of the tour in Chamonix (learn more in the exclusive web interview with did with her directly before the event). Second place went to Janette Hargin (SWE) and third to Lorraine Huber (AUT).
The conditions weren’t perfect for such an event as there is still no proper base on the mountains in most parts of Austria, but the riders managed to show some good moves nonetheless.
Next stop is the Nissan Tram Face in Squaw Valley, USA on February 27th, the last event before the big finals at the Xtreme Verbier in Switzerland which will go down on March 20th.

We shout a big congrats over to Norway, home of the amazing Lisa Wiik, who doesn’t only grace the cover of our current issue but also rocked the Burton Canadian Open this week while we we’re busy checking out all the new stuff for next season at the ispo trade fair in Munich (we’ll share the highlights of that with you very soon...)
With her 2nd place in the slope style event and 5th in the pipe, Lisa got just enough points to move herself in front of Sarka Pancochova, who’s been leading the tour all season.
The true threat for all competitors is Finnish newcomer Enni Rukajärvi though, who can add another 5star TTR title to her roll of wins that already include the European Chicken Jam and the Burton European open. This proves once again that still waters definitely run deep…

As snowboarding is not much different from other actions sports, girls are always underrepresented in media - if it’s not focused on girls in the first place like we are for example.
But instead of moaning and complaining about the old gender gap we should take action and combine our female powers, which is exactly what Lynsey Ashdown and Helen Fox have done with the Heel Edge Project. Following amazing pioneers like Peepshow, they decided to create their own British snowboard movie to give shreddettes the coverage they deserve.
And as a true grass roots thing, they’re happy for anyone who wants to get involved joining them! So send them all footage you can find of yourself or friends from this winter, no matter if park, backcountry or domes and dryslopes to and join their Facebook group

Massive congratulations to Jenny Jones for winning gold in the X-Games slopestyle for a second year running! Jenny held off strong competition from Jamie Anderson and Janna Meyen-Weatherby and despite a swollen, injured knee took to top spot on the podium with a clean run.
Yeah Jenn!

British Surf Champ and World Qualifying Series contestant Sarah Beardmore has bagged herself a new sponsor and is now part of the Protest team!
This is what Jereon Coppens, Protest European brand manager, had to say: “We have been searching for a girl who is world class in her sport and also has the drive and passion to get where she wants to be. With her personality and enthusiasm, Sarah is an inspiration to others girls to want to surf more, just as Protest is trying to do. She is a fantastic addition to our team of riders and will really motivate her teammates to be as ambitious in their pursuit of success. Sarah is also incredibly creative, which will be reflected in our designs for the riders inspired collection.”
Make sure you watch out for the 26 year old, as she might be the first British girl to get on the ASP World Championship Tour.
Congrats, Sarah!

Countless design collaborations have already proofed Eastpak’s affinity for art. Now they’ve created their very own gallery in their icon store on Carnaby Street in London. The EASTPAK Gallery is a platform for new up and coming talents and launches this Friday, January 29th 2010 with the work of Matt Sewell. His work draws from his rural heritage, fusing fairytale-like narratives, natural geometry, bucolia, psychedelic landscapes, utopian dreams and a symbolic treatment of animals and birds. “I’ve been drawing since as far back as I can remember; I used to swap drawings at school for sweets.”
If you fancy checking it out, here’s the hard facts:

In the ‘Generation Internship’ it’s sometimes hard to even get a proper normal one. Traveling the world sounds like a fairytale but it can come for two lucky ones, who manage to bag the STA travel advisor internships!
They will be asked to discover hidden gems, find out random facts and increase their travel knowledge about 5 major destinations throughout South East Asia, Australia and the USA. You will be asked to document your work with video footage and photos as well as notes in the important features of the destination.
Celia Pronto, Marketing Director of STA Travel, points out what you need to bring to be considered for that internship: “In order to work for STA Travel people must have some travel experience, and must be able to demonstrate a passion for travel. The service our consultants offer is enhanced through drawing on their own experiences and we greatly value this insight. The World Traveller Intern programme is an extension of this. We want our interns to collect the most current information, as well as local hints and tips from around the world to share with customers and us as a company, building on the insider knowledge we are renowned for.”
You think you got what it takes and feel like you can’t miss that once in a lifetime opportunity? Then apply at worldtravellerintern.co.uk and pray to whatever power you worship that you get this internship of all internships…
