You might remember the rail-slaying qualities of the Slovenian Rip Curl team rider from her part in Lipstick’s 5 more minutes…please?! and in case that got you curious to learn more about Urska Probosic, you’re just in the right place to do that

Interview by Anna Langer

Hey Urska, where are you right now and what are you up to?
Right now I just got home from my training. I wanted to go to the gym because Wednesday was training day but we forgot that it’s culture day and the gym was locked…So we ended up in a local bar.  Otherwise I’ve been at home for a few days, riding my home mountain and now I’m packing for the TTR world championships in Oslo. So far I packed 3 bottles of wine and my bikini for the spa. Don’t think I’ll need anything else.

Urska PribosicHow is filming with Lipstick going this season?
So far I’ve been on one trip. In December there was no snow anywhere close, so we decided to do a trip to Iceland in January. When we got there it started snowing in the alps and raining in Iceland. Lucky us. Last year Conny was doing all the organising by herself and this year Ana Rumiha is helping her so hopefully it makes it a bit easier. They made all the riders do a boob job to make the next movie more watchable. We are also making podcast of our lip-trips. So far two are online and you should watch them.

That Iceland trip looked so much fun!
It was fun, except for of few days of rain and icy streets. After a week in Reykjavik we moved to the north expecting more snow but what we got was really warm weather and little snow. So the first day we went to build some spots so we could ride them the next day. When we woke up the next day everything was frozen and we couldn’t ride anything. And to top it off, we had to take one of the spots down completely because it was in front of a kinder garden. So imagine us in the middle of the night smashing an in run with hammers and a saw! It was pure ice and I was pretty upset. While we were doing that, Ana looked into the sky and saw the northern lights and we straight drove on the top on the mountain to watch them – and make a profile picture of course. That was my favorite part of the trip. The lights are amazing, hard to describe, you just have to see it for yourself.

That sounds pretty cool! Any more fun stories?
One day we left the keys in our apartment and locked ourselves out. That wasn’t so funny but the next day we did the same – only with our car. That was so stupid that it was already funny. After building a perfect spot we left the keys inside the car and closed it. All our boards and cameras were in it. The guys went back to get a tennis ball – I still don’t know what were they thinking on doing with that ball but anyway… In the mean time I tried to find something useful around the car, and I did: a piece of rope and a little stick from a tree. With Basa holding the window open with a shovel and me catching the window lock with a rope on a stick we managed to open the car! I swear it was my first time, I don’t know about Basa though… For your information: most of the criminals in Iceland are from Eastern Europe.

There seems to come a lot from Eastern Europe lately, especially riders. How did your career start?
I was first sponsored by Elan and they were pushing me a lot – in a good way of course. That’s why I started to do contests and went to the Sista Sessions in Mayrhofen last year, I thought it’s a good way to get more recognition and also a bit bigger budget. That would give me the chance to travel around and ride more…and it worked! After that season the Slovenian Rip Curl distributor suggested me to their team manager. It was perfect timing since they were just building a girls team then and I was on board.

How did you experience the first years as a pro?
It’s good but sometimes I fell I don’t appreciate it as much as I should. If that happens I just go to school for a day or two and after it’s all good again.

How much has your life changed since then?
It’s a totally different way of life. For me every day is a Sunday. Before I was living a normal life, going to school every day (well, almost) and riding my home mountain. Then it suddenly all changed. I started traveling and riding all the time. Sometimes I really miss my friends and days when I could just chill at home do nothing and be happy about it. After two years I got used to it and now when I’m at home I really make the most out of it. When I travel around I get see so many awesome places and experience all kinds of stuff, it’s crazy. … I love my life!

Did you ever regret going to that contest?
Yes, when I was there because I was sick and I wanted to go home. But that was before I got the results…

You also won the video contest back then I think, has filming always been your thing?
I did, we are filming something all the time but mostly stupid and funny stuff. I always liked doing small edits, it’s fun. And if I can make anyone else laugh, even better.

What advice can you give to other girls who want to follow in your footsteps?
Have fun.

What plans do you have for the rest of the season?
This month I’m gonna do a few contests and after I have no plans. It’s always fun to have no plans and be spontaneous. Probably I’ll film with Lipstick a bit more and ride for myself.

And for the rest of your life?
No Idea.

Anything else you want to get off your heart?
I have to pack.

Haha, we’ll let you finish then – we wouldn’t wanna be responsible if you miss the bottoms of your bikini!
